The Queen Mary 2 made of Lego at the International Maritime Museum Hamburg
Bildnachweis: Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg/Damián Morán Dauchez
On Deck 1 of the International Maritime Museum of Hamburg you can find a quite spectacular exhibit: a miniature model of the ocean liner Queen Mary 2 built in a scale of 1:50 and made exclusively with Lego bricks. The term miniature feels a bit inappropriate because this model ship is 7 meters long. The model is even included in a Lego diorama representing the dry dock 17 of the Hamburger shipyard Blohm+Voss, that stands on the river Elbe, not far from the museum itself.
Why was this monumental diorama built? And why was the Queen Mary 2 chosen as the ship to be represented in it? Historian Damián Morán from the Maritime Museum tells the story behind this offbeat masterpiece.
